Hyatt is the first major Hotel Company that addressed the needs of traveling families by creating a special chain-wide kids' program called Camp Hyatt. Today, Camp Hyatt remains a leading program in the industry, with a new focus at the resorts on cultural learning activities that bring to life the environment and history of the area.

The director of Camp Hyatt believes the success of Camp Hyatt is the result of a strong core product and ongoing customer research that directs future camp developments.

Camp Hyatt directors continue to talk to families about what they want from a hotel when they travel, acquiring information that enables them to make their customers' trips more enjoyable and more rewarding. New elements are continually added to the program, insuring that Camp Hyatt remains as imaginative and innovative as it was when it was first created.

This year, in addition to the usual features available at all Hyatt properties in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean, Camp Hyatt focuses on the environment and activities indigenous to the destinations surrounding Hyatt's 15 resorts in the U.S. and the Caribbean.

ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

Whale watching on Maui, crabbing on Hilton Head, iguana hunts on St. John, Native American storytelling in Scottsdale and sea turtle studies in Grand Cayman.

Hyatt resorts are located in or near some of the world's most interesting natural environments, offering a whole range of fun learning opportunities for children. Camp directors have found that the most successful program elements are the ones that incorporate the flora, fauna, geography and culture of a particular destination.

Camp Hyatt, available to children ages 3 to 12 at more than 100 hotels and resorts in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean, currently offers:

* 50% off the price of a second room.

* The hotel industry's only frequent stay program for kids. The program awards children who stay four separate times at Hyatt with free Camp Hyatt merchandise. All children checking in at Hyatt receive a Camp Hyatt frequent stay passport to be stamped each time they stay at a Hyatt hotel or resort.

* A children's welcome check-in packet that includes a Camp Hyatt frequent stay passport, a registration card, room service menu and a free Camp Hyatt cap.

* A specially priced children's menu in room service and 3-meal restaurants. Half-price children's portions of all regular menu items in Hyatt restaurants also are available for children age 12 years old and under.

* Outside babysitting services available through all hotels and resorts.

In addition, Camp Hyatt includes the following at the 15 Hyatt resorts:

* Supervised daytime and evening camp programs (daily during summers and holiday periods and year-round on weekends at select resorts). Each camp offers a variety of activity sessions; rates are approximately $6 per hour, although prices vary. Meals may be included.

* Special family activities in which parents and kids can participate together. Activities include barbecues, sing-a-longs, marshmallow roasts, bike rides and bird-watching expeditions.
