The following information comes to you from: THE HERITAGE GROUP
PREFACE
As a native of the Smoky Mountains and a frequent guest, I am continually awed by the timeless beauty of the mountains. As my own personal life took its share of bumps and bruises, my appreciation of the stability and constancy of the mountains grew stronger. Having grown up in a family that can trace its roots to the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge-Sevierville area, the Smoky Mountains will always be home. Over the past 43 years, I have made countless trips to the Smokies, Gatlinburg, and the surrounding area and have enjoyed every minute. While some would say that the commercialism has become excessive, I personally find the wide variety of things to do, places to stay, and excellent mountain food to be welcome relief to the homogenized, pasteurized environments of Disney World and the like. My nearly 13-year-old daughter finds trips to the area stimulating and filled with all kinds of interesting things.
I assembled this directory as a means to promote the Smoky Mountain area and to handle the many inquiries I receive about what's there to do, where to stay, etc. You may call or write the various businesses listed below for more specific information and the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce can also provide additional information. Enjoy the Smokies and the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge-Sevierville-Cherokee (NC) area!
If you still have a question after viewing the directory, we'll do our best to get you an answer. Please email to the address listed.
GATLINBURG-A LITTLE MOUNTAIN HISTORY
Gatlinburg, known for more than a half-century as "Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains" has grown from a quaint mountain village into a major resort area. Crossed by four mountain-fed streams, the town contains a wide variety of accommodations at more than 130 motels and hotels, lodges, cabins and hundreds of rental chalets peppering the surrounding mountains. In addition to more than 300 shops, many featuring native crafts, Gatlinburg has more than a dozen family-oriented attractions, from museums to one of the South's finest ski resorts.
A Tennessee "premier resort city," Gatlinburg is at the main entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and offers many special events and year-round vacation and recreational opportunities. Gatlinburg is named for a man so unpopular he was actually run out of town. Radford Gatlin first arrived in the area in 1855 from North Carolina and opened a store. Five years later, he offered space in his store for a post office in exchange for naming the settlement Gatlinburg. Over the years, Gatlin got into numerous arguments with his neighbors, but it was his pro-confederacy views (in a country that voted 1,320 to 1 to remain in the Union), that finally got him run out of town.

The Brevard Inn
P.O. Box 326
Gatlinburg, TN 37738
423-436-7233
Normal hours: Mon.-Sat. - all hours
Innkeeper: Marjorie Brevard
The Brevard Inn has been a landmark in Gatlinburg for the past 28 years. Marjorie has done an outstanding job of creating a distinctive Old World Inn nestled in the Smokies. The inn is tucked away in a quiet niche of Gatlinburg that is within comfortable walking distance of downtown Gatlinburg with its excellent restaurants and unique craft shops. The inn is a rustic, mountain inn furnished with museum quality antiques but offers modern conveniences and oozes with Southern charm and hospitality. Two cabins and one suite (in the inn) are available for your enjoyment. A fully authentic decor highlighted by handmade brick, worm-eaten Chestnut paneling and an open fireplace creates a coziness that is unmatched by the homogenized, modularized rooms of the chain hotels and motels. The inn is open year-round so you can enjoy all the spectacular seasons of the Smokies.
Old porch rockers beckon you to stop a while and enjoy the relaxing beauty of the mountains' clean, fresh air and to listen to the birds chirping and singing around the inn. During the spring, the inn is surrounded by blooming dogwood trees and wildflowers. Throughout the summer, nearby mountain streams splash playfully and urge you to try your hand at trout fishing, hike the nearby trails, picnic along the stream, shop 'till you drop, go to a mountain music festival, or just take a load off your feet on the porch. In the fall, the cool misty mornings, clear warm afternoons, the matchless beauty of the foliage, craft festivals, nearby SEC football games, and hayrides provide a tremendous variety of activities for everyone. But it's not over yet! The winter brings out the coziness of the inn, the warmth of the fireplace, Christmas shopping in Gatlinburg, skiing at Ober Gatlinburg or just snuggle in your bed.
Directions: At Traffic Light #7 on the Parkway, turn up Reagan Drive at Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum. Turn left at 3rd corner which is Stuart Lane. Continue a short distance until you see the Brevard Inn sign. Continue up the hill into the driveway nearest to the log cabin.
Call Marjorie to make your reservation or to obtain more information. We suggest you make your reservations as early as possible to obtain desired dates.

Dollywood
1020 Dollywood Lane
Pigeon Forge, TN 37863
Dollywood is billed as the Entertainment Capital of the Smokies and is owned and managed by Dolly Parton, the well-known star of country music, films, and television. A visit to Dollywood will bring that "Smokies Spirit" alive through genuinely friendly people, upbeat entertainment, crafts, rides and shops. These things are all surrounded with country charm and back-dropped against a rustic mountain setting. There are about 45 musical performances per day featuring everything from contemporary to country, gospel to bluegrass. There is a humorous magic show that will delight everyone. A full-color brochure with complete info is available by calling.
Dollywood has a 110-ton coal-fired steam train that will take you on a 5-mile ride through the mountains. A museum displays the "rags to riches" story of Dolly Parton complete with childhood and personal mementos. Dollywood has an authentic handcarved Dentzel Carousel for you to enjoy. There are about 20 craft shops open every day, staffed by expert craftsmen.
There are several water rides at Dollywood including the "Smoky Mountain Rampage." Riders sit in a large inner tube shaped "boat" that floats and spins its way down the rapids. You will get wet. A log flume ride is also nearby that is sure to splash those in the front seats. Dollywood has established an eagle sanctuary called Eagle Mountain. It contains 1.5 million cubic feet of natural terrain for non-releasable eagles to enjoy and be viewed by visitors. As the seasons change, the park changes in decor and in musical taste. The Christmas season brings the addition of millions of lights, decorations, and musical shows that will make you reminisce about your childhood Christmas days.
Generally, the best days to visit are on Monday and Friday in the spring and fall, and Monday and Thursday during the summer. Though Dollywood is a very popular park, overcrowding is seldom a major problem. Season tickets are the best buys and offer free parking.
Dollywood has something for every age visitor and a whole section of the park for the very young. Shopping is best in Craftsman's Valley and prices are reasonable.
