HORSEPACKING
Observations: And some helpful hints
by Barbara Euser from "Take 'em Along" (Johnson Books)
Horsepacking may enable your family to travel distances and visit places that are too difficult to reach by backpacking alone:
1) Different kinds of horsepack trips are available, ranging from completely catered trips, riding horses every day, accompanied by a guide and wranglers, to a bare bones drop trip.
2) On drop trips, not everyone needs a saddle horse. Pack horses can carry equipment and people can alternate hiking and riding.
3) Burros and llamas are also available for pack trips or drop trips.
4) Think creatively about how to use pack animals to achieve the best possible wilderness experience for your family.
