The Hanford House in the historic gold-rush town of Sutter Creek, California is a newly-built, 9-room inn. They like to serve up this tasty nut bread for breakfast. JIMMY'S FAVORITE NUT BREAD 2 large eggs 2 cups brown sugar 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 1 cup chopped walnuts 1-1/4 cups buttermilk Preheat oven to 350. Butter two loaf pans. Beat eggs, add sugar and mix well. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Stir walnuts into dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk to egg-sugar mixture. Batter will be stiff. Pour into pans, and level the tops. Bake approximately 50 minutes. Test for doneness. (A cake tester or toothpick should come out dry.) Cool 10 minutes in pans, then turn out onto racks. This heavy nutbread freezes well and is best sliced thin. Also delicious toasted and spread with butter or whipped cream cheese. Each loaf serves 8 to 10. Bed and Breakfast Inns
