Early Music Festival

San Francisco, California

Since beginning in 1990, the Berkeley Festival & Exhibition has been regarded as on of the premier events of its kind. Bringing together early music performers, scholars, instrument makers, publishers and other professionals for a week of music concerts and activities, this festival is a true celebration of international early world music. This seventh biennial festival will put on over 15 main stage performances, plus dozens of "fringe" events featuring music from the Middle Ages through baroque. Main features are on the Return of Le Carrousel Du Roi, an historical reconstruction of 17th-century equestrian ballet, Skip Sempe's Capriccio Stravagante with mezzo-soprano Guillemette Laurens and Chanticleer, and keyboard specialist Davitt Moroney. There will also be performances by recorder virtuoso Marion Verbruggen, American Bach Soloists, Magnificat, Artaria Quartet, Iberia Gloriosa, and many others.
