Located on the campus of Duke University, the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club opened in 1988, introducing Durham to a new adventure in elegance.
The hotel, built in modern Gothic architecture to blend with the university, overlooks the Robert Trent Jones championship 18-hole golf course. This "classic" course was renovated in the past year by Ross Jones. Today you would be overwhelmed by the beauty and improved playability of the course. The other three sides of the hotel property are embraced by the Duke Forest.
Antiques and Duke family memorabilia grace the lobby and halls. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the flowered terrace and golf course. Slate floors, brass elevator doors, mahogany, and rich blues welcome the traveler.
In the guestrooms, dark wood is featured in headboards, mirror frames, desks, chairs, and armoires. Each room has a multiple access phone for fax or personal computer, and comfortable chairs with ottomans and accompanying reading light. Draperies open to views of the beautifully landscaped entrance or the manicured golf course.
The Fairview Restaurant, overlooking the golf course, is a popular Durham dining spot. Its menu offers a medley of international specialties. For alfresco dining try the Terrace-on-the-Green.
One can relax with friends at the Bull Durham Bar, where piano entertainment is featured four nights per week. Guest privileges are extended to the 24-hour Metrosport facility for those who prefer to unwind in a health club.
Reminiscent of a personal library, the Duke University Room is perfect for small conferences. Groups of up to 600 can be accommodated in the Ambassador Ballroom.
