MAKING A HOTEL ROOM A HOME
For those of us who travel a lot, hotels can become pretty tiring. I've picked up a few tricks over time to make a hotel room much more hospitable.
1. Bring along a sarong or other length of fabric to use as both a beach/bath wrap and also to spread over the bed between times to cheer up the room.
2. Hang a scarf around the outside of the lampshade (not over it) to soften the light and create more atmosphere.
3. Carry a small reading light. Few hotels provide adequate ones.
4. Bring a small plug-in tea kettle, a mug, and your favorite hot beverages, like hot chocolate in envelopes, a tiny coffee, sugar and creamer, tea bags, both herbal and regular, bouillon cubes or other emergency rations.
5. Bring along some of your favorite snacks, chocolate bars, raisins, nuts.
6. Pick up some fruit outside the hotel.
7. Buy yourself some flowers for your room. Room service will almost always be able to supply a suitable vase.
8. Bring your own pillow.
9. Bring a pair of bath slippers and a light weight robe if your accommodation doesn't provide them. Ask first.
10. Have a selection of your favorite magazines including at least one or two local ones to help tune you into the area.
Now, doesn't that feel better?
