is the first time that such a carriage has been brought from Europe to England.
Sleeping Car 3483 is an antique weighing over 50 tons. While each of the carriages
on this famous train has a distinct personality, Sleeping Car 3483, crafted in
1929 in Birmingham, England, is decorated with floral-themed marquetry.
Agatha Christie had a great interest in and fascination with train travel and spent her honeymoon on board the Orient-Express. Today both Christie and the Orient-Express are synonymous with mystery, opulence, appeal and fame. Exhibition visitors can actually walk through Sleeping Car 3483, which formed part of the Train Bleu, the Rome Express, and the Nord Express during the 1930s. At the start of World War II, Sleeping Car 3483 was stored at Pouancee and by 1946 was recovered from the German Army. From 1948 Sleeping Car 3483 formed part of the Orient-Express. As a special tribute, uniformed stewards will be on duty to escort visitors through the interior of the carriage that will feature luxurious day and night compartments.
