Hyatt Kachina
Scottsdale,
Arizona
Under
the umbrella of "Experiential Vacations," Hyatt Regency Scottsdale
in Scottsdale, Arizona
has developed an extensive program for children. Camp Hyatt Kachina, for
young resort guests, ages 3-5 and 6-12 is offered daily and designed to
focus on the four major elements of the destination: flora, fauna, history
and geography. Campers can enjoy a half-day session or a full day's worth
of fun and interesting activities, such as designing Clay Bead Necklaces,
Native American Stick Ball, crafting, Sandstone Paintings, creating Mexican
Bird Rattles, and "Hotel Saguaro" (an elaborate puppet show about
the desert's ecology), to name a few.
Unique to the resort is their Native American Learning Center, an on-going collaborative venture with Hope artists and educators, interpreting many aspects of their cultures. Employing members of Native tribes, it features some of the most highly recognized Native American artisans who share their art, history, and traditional knowledge and teachings. The Center has just added a new display area and tactile stations, allowing guests to take part in the Native American experience, first-hand. Examples of new activities include grinding corn, weaving, and pottery making.
