BC Ferries Give Wildlife Enthusiasts Some Great Reasons To Visit Vancouver
Island This Winter & Spring
Vancouver
Island, Canada
BC Ferries, which provide daily service to Swartz Bay and Nanaimo on Vancouver
Island in Canada, is encouraging naturalists to take advantage of seasonal
opportunities for viewing Vancouver Island's rich variety of wildlife.
Eagle Extravaganza (Jan. to Feb.2, 2001). Each winter up to 250 Bald Eagles visit Goldstream Provincial Park, just outside of Victoria. The best viewing is from the visitor center, early in the morning or on a weekday. Spotting scopes are recommended for good views of the eagles and other wildlife. For more information, please contact Freeman King Visitor Center at Goldstream Provincial Park at 250-478-9414.
Trumpeter Swan Festival
(Feb. 10, 2001
- 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.). This special day includes a naturalist-guided
bus tour of swan feeding sites, displays and an Adopt-A-Swan program. From
October through April, beautiful Comox Valley attracts more than 2,000 elegant
Trumpeter Swans, the largest flying bird in North America that is so named
because of a loop in its larynx that causes the birds to make a bugle sound.
For more information, contact the Trumpeter Swan Sentinel Society at 250-334-3234.
