JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT
Williamsburg, Virginia

2005 SPECIAL PROGRAMS ENHANCE HISTORY LESSONS AT JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT, YORKTOWN VICTORY CENTER

This year, on the eve of two historically significant milestones - the 225th in 2006 of the nation's momentous Revolutionary War victory at Yorktown and the 400th anniversary in 2007 of the founding in Virginia of America's first permanent English colony - Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center present an array of special programs, stimulating gallery exhibits and hands-on history programs.

The story of the nation's beginnings - from the arrival of English colonists in 1607 to the American Revolution and the adoption of the Constitution and Bill of Rights almost two centuries later - unfolds at the two museums through gallery exhibits and historical interpretation in outdoor re-created settings. Daily tours and visitor-participatory demonstrations allow visitors to glimpse everyday lifestyles of people in 17th and 18th century Virginia.

Jamestown Settlement is taking shape to serve as one of Virginia's principal stages for 400-anniversary programs and events. Gallery exhibits in a year-old theater and special exhibition building provide an overview of Jamestown's origins in the "Old World" and the cultures and events of 1600s Virginia, previewing themes of new permanent galleries opening by 2007. A new entrance plaza and expanded visitor parking lot that more than doubles the number of vehicle spaces will debut in mid-2005.

Admission to special programs is included in general admission. A combination ticket to both museums is $17.00 for adults and $8.25 for youth ages 6 through 12. Jamestown Settlement is $11.75 for adults, $5.75 for youth, and admission to the Yorktown Victory Center is $8.25 for adults and $4.00 for youth. An annual pass to both museums also is available. Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center admission tickets are included in several Williamsburg area vacation packages available through the Williamsburg Hotel & Motel Association, (800) 494-8643 toll-free.
