CONSERVATION EXHIBITS AT THE MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM IN MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA
Tunas, sea turtles and sharks are magnificent ocean animals. Seahorses are exotic and fascinating fish. Yet the very characteristics that make these sea creatures attractive to humans also puts them at risk from harmful fishing practices and habitat destruction. These amazing animals and the threats they face in the wild are the focus of two new exhibits that open May 19, 2001 at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California. "Vanishing Wildlife: Saving Tunas, Turtles and Sharks" features a stunning and previously unseen view into the aquarium's million-gallon Outer Bay display; "Saving Seahorses" presents captivating seahorses from around the world. Both exhibits also tell how people are working to protect tunas, turtles, sharks and seashores in the wild.
