Putting families first, the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts in Hawaii offers the Cowabunga Kids Club, a full-day activity program open to children ages 5 through 13 that is staffed by professional child-care counselors. The Club has a surfing theme and places an emphasis on discovering the natural wonders of Hawaii through excursions and cultural activities. Each club also has colorful iMac computers for "surfing" the Internet and playing games. In Waikiki, the Cowabunga Kids Club is located at the Outrigger Reef and is open to children staying at any Outrigger or OHANA hotel in Waikiki, with convenient shuttle service provided. Cowabunga Kids Clubs are also available at the Outrigger Waikoloa Beach on the island of Hawaii and at the newly renovated Outrigger Wailea Resort on Maui.
Children between the ages of 5 and 13, who stay a minimum of three nights at participating Outrigger properties, receive a free interactive Island Explorer Kit. The Island Explorer Kit, packaged in a colorful free backpack, includes a series of Discovery Guides, developed with the University of Hawaii, that help parents and children learn about various aspects of Hawaii through self-guided excursions. Also included is a range of fun, kid-oriented items, including mini-binoculars, sunglasses and a pen with compass.
Filled with colorful images and live audio, the "Family Fun Guide to Hawaii" CD-ROM provides general information on the best family friendly attractions, historical sites, restaurants and hotels and condos that Hawaii has to offer. From the CD-ROM's home page, users can access the comprehensive "Restaurant Guide," or the "Island Attractions" section where they will find information on many popular attractions and historical sites on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. A friendly host provides a brief overview of each of the islands, with photos and information on individual sites and attractions just a click away.
