HARBOR HOUSE VILLAGE NANTUCKET'S HARBOR HOUSE VILLAGE LAUNCHES 'VILLAGE KIDS' Village Kids, the only children's program offered by a hotel on the island of Nantucket, is available to guests of the Harbor House Village from June 11 to September 5, 2004. | Focusing on the culture, traditions and history of Nantucket, Village Kids provides supervised activities for children such as scrimshaw carving demonstrations, beachcombing, historical storytelling and stargazing. The program is featured daily from June 11 to September 5. Fee is $10.00 per child, per session (two sessions per day). Evening activities (Friday and Saturday only) are offered from 6-9pm for a $25.00 fee per night.
Village Kids features half-day and full-day sessions, and is open to children from age 5 to 13. Experienced club counselors and lifeguards lead and supervise the activities. Each day brings a new theme that centers on Nantucket's past, present and future. Children will delight to tales of Nantucket's seafaring past and tour historical sites; learn the history of such time-honored local traditions as scrimshaw carving, lightship basket making and stenciling; hit Children's Beach for sandcastle building, swimming and exploring native marine and bird life, and play at the hotel's outdoor, heated pool. The Village Kids Club House is a dedicated play space where children can try their hand at ping-pong, finger painting and other arts and crafts. A large screen TV, VCR and computer are available for movies and video games. An evening program is held from 6 to 9pm, Thursdays through Saturdays, and includes dinner, arts and crafts, games, movies and popcorn. All children participating in the program receive a packet of goodies featuring stuffed toys, coloring books, storybooks and T-shirts. The renovated, family-friendly, 104-room Harbor House Village is just steps from historic downtown Nantucket. The historic Harbor House Village includes the main building, which consists of 35 guestrooms with period detail; the Springfield House, located steps away from the main building (an intimate and private setting with 12 spacious guestrooms); and The Village Houses, a series of townhouses in traditional Nantucket style -- especially popular with families. Most of its 57 rooms accommodate up to five people. Children younger than age three will find plenty of activities at Harbor House Village according to GoBabies, Inc. (http://www.GoBabies.com). Rent bicycles or jog strollers and explore the harbor, or enjoy the gentle waves of the children's beach that features a playground for toddlers.
