EXETER REVOLUTIONARY WAR FESTIVAL
Exeter, New Hampshire

13th ANNUAL EXETER REVOLUTIONARY WAR FESTIVAL MARCHES INTO TOWN JULY 19, 2003
The 13th annual Exeter Revolutionary War Festival, happening Saturday, July 19 in Exeter, New Hampshire celebrates the extraordinary deeds of ordinary 18th century citizens. From reading original drafts of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, talking history with New Hampshire statesman John Taylor Gilman and his family, to listening to 18th century music and strolling through Colonial and British troop encampments, the Festival offers a glimpse at life during the Revolutionary War. Festival hours are 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; admission is free, but fees are charged for certain events.

Festival highlights include:
  • Public viewings of the Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence (one of only 25 known to exist in the United States) and original drafts of the U.S. Constitution.

  • Historic role-players, whose portrayals include 18th century NH statesman John Taylor Gilman in his home at the American Independence Museum, and General George Washington whose arrival kicks off the Festival.

  • Live music stage. Take a musical journey through time beginning with 18th century theater, dance and patriotic music performed by David and Ginger Hildebrand; traditional 18th and 19th century New England songs by Jeff Warner and Bruce MacIntyre; to 20th century blues by T.J. Wheeler and his Funky River Band.

  • The Fifes & Drums of the Lincoln Minute Men, a fife & drum corps from Massachusetts, plays the tunes and marches of the Revolution.

  • Junior Militia, for children ages 7 - 13, offers military maneuvers at the American Independence Museum.
