MISSION POINT RESORT - AN EXCELLENT FAMILY DESTINATION!

Mission Point Resort, on Mackinac Island in Michigan, is a great family destination and in a year when most Americans are planning to vacation close to home, the resort's family services may be of particular interest.

The resort supplies cribs and high chairs for families who need them. They have children's menus and a Kids Eat Free program for youngsters 12 and under. And, of course, because there are no cars on the Island, Mom, Dad and kids have the fun of arriving at the resort in a horse-drawn carriage. Babysitting services are available through the resort concierge. Typically, the baby sitters are hotel employees who have been carefully screened as part of the hiring process.

The Discovery Club is headquarters for children at the resort. Discovery Club activities are designed for ages 4 to 10, but they do have some programs for ages 2 to 4. The younger set would need to be accompanied by parents. Their activities include:

  • Circle time
  • Balloons and Bubbles
  • Teddy Bear Picnic

The 4 to 10 year olds have playtime, arts and crafts and other activities with the Discovery Center staff. The hours for the Discovery Center are 9 a.m to 10 p.m. If a parent were attending an all-day meeting or event at the resort and needed a full day of childcare the cost would be $16. Half days at the Discovery Center are defined as 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Half-day fees are $10 per child.

Additionally, the resort has an array of family activities like picnic games and bingo around the pool. Build your own sundae, poolside. They have bikes with children's seats and carriers. There is a croquet court, an 18-hole putting course, and a tennis court. The resort has a movie theatre, which shows first-run films. Since most of the island is a state park, families can hike and bike or take hayrides around the island.

The resort overlooks Lake Huron, and is open annually through Oct. 31. For more information, visit http://www.missionpoint.com or call (800) 833-7711.
