BIG BEAR LAKE CELEBRATES 31st ANNIVERSARY OF OKTOBERFEST WITH SIX WEEKENDS OF FESTIVITIES

Big Bear Lake, California transforms itself into a German alpine village during the 31st annual Oktoberfest, held weekends from September 22nd through October 28th, 2001, featuring music, contests, and delectable German fare. The fourth weekend ‚ Friday October 12, 6:00 p.m. to midnight -- admission is free to anyone over 21 years of age.

The Big Bear Lake Convention Center, is the center of festivities, which kick off with the Chase Band performing weekly beginning opening day from 12:30 p.m. to midnight. Each weekend, visitors can enjoy the Danube-Swabin Dancers; the Gesundheit Dancers; Sam's Polka Gems, direct from Oregon; and The Express Band, the Southland's premiere German Band. Daily competitions test participants' skill in log sawing and stein holding to be held during the first five weekends of Oktoberfest. The "must see" Oktoberfest Queen finals is scheduled Saturday, October 13, when the woman who can carry the most water-filled steins, is crowned queen.

Tickets are just $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children ages 3-12 on Saturdays, and $4.00 for adults on Sundays, with free admission for children.
