EXPLORATORIUM EXPLORE THE EXPLORATORIUM! The Exploratorium, in San Francisco, CA, is known as the first and foremost of the worldís
interactive museums, designed to make the world understandable. It is like
a mad scientist's penny arcade, a scientific funhouse and an experimental
laboratory all rolled into one. With hundreds of hands-on exhibits, all you
need is curiosity. At the new Seeing collection, you will swear that an
object is white, only to discover that it is practically black. In the new
Traits of Life section, see a roundworm glow with the inserted luminescence
of a jellyfish, or harvest your own cheek cell and compare it to the cells
of a tomato or potato. While wandering through the rest of the museum, you
can touch a tornado and shape a glowing electrical current, as well as take
a sensory journey in total darkness in the Tactile Dome. Moreover, the
Exploratorium is housed in San Francisco's most beautiful structure, the
romantic Palace of Fine Arts, located in San Francisco's Marina district. |

| The Exploratorium has become internationally known for its innovations in
exhibit design and science education. Also, since its founding, the
Exploratorium has always included the work of artists in the museum to
demonstrate that art complements science as a way of understanding the
natural world.
Our award-winning web site, http://www.exploratorium.edu, has won five Webby awards: four for "Best Science Site," and one for "Best Education Site." On the first Wednesday of every month, admission to the Exploratorium is free. And, the Exploratorium is part of the popular CityPass program (on the Internet at http://www.citypass.com).
