| More than 50 special events are planned at 20 historic sites through June, 2003. The sound of musket and cannon fire, fife and drum, and the woody scent of campfires fill the air as hundreds of actors relive this chapter of history with battle reenactments and encampments. Harvest festivals, holiday candlelight tours and Colonial merriment fill out the year. Craftspeople demonstrate 18th century domestic arts, including hearth cooking, spinning, music and dance on special event weekends. And Colonial taverns serve up pints of hand-crafted ale and hearty meals.
Visitors will hear the stories of officers, servants and slaves whose heroism earned their place in history. Revisit the times when ordinary citizens took up arms against the government, the military took over peoples' homes, and no one was above suspicion - including the pacifist Quakers. First-person interpreters from the American Historical Theatre bring General George Washington, the Marquis de Lafayette, and British General Sir William Howe and many other characters to life.
